Stop 3 Roadtrip Croatia: Cultural Rijeka, Croatia

This september (2020) we went on a roadtrip to Croatia. Each week we will tell you about another day and another amazing must visit stop in this beautiful country. So let’s continue with stop 3: Rijeka, Croatia. Make sure to read stop 1: Chiemsee, Germany and stop 2: Lake Bled, Slovenia.

After we had our lovely dinner at boonkers, watching the sunset and overlooking the marina we had a good night sleep in our accomodation. After a night in the car, the bed felt so comfortable.

The next day we wanted to discover Rijeka. First things first so we had a Coffee ☕️, fresh orange juice 🍊 and a croissant 🥐 in one of the local bars. Did you know that every time you order a coffee, you get a free glass of water? Probably to erase the coffee breath smell. In Belgium we never get a free glass of water with that. Does your country give you a free glass of water when you order coffee?

After our delicious breakfast, we took a walk and came across lots of cute and charming streets. We really loved the fact that there were almost no new buildings in the city. Everything looked so old and charming and romantic! I mean look at this building… The architecture is so stunning! I’m also a really big fan of the beige and yellow buildings. They all give me the same summery and cultural vibe which i love.

We loved walking through the small streets and these cute archways ❤️ Do you like archways or do you think they are too old and don’t fit into our modern culture?

We had a perfect walk around the whole inner city. This took us about 4 hours. Because we had dinner yesterday at the marina, we didn’t need to visit that again so because of that we had some extra time. The weather was just amazing! It was about 24 degrees. Really perfect temperature for a citytrip! We hate when it’s cold and rainy (like it always is in our home country), so we always travel to warmer countries. But in temperatures over 30 degrees, we don’t like to do citytrips and walk a lot. When it’s too hot we get really slow and tired. Who can relate?

Are you more fan of big, new and modern cities like New york City or London or do you like these charming cities better? Please let us know in the comments or in this poll ☀️

After walking in these cute little streets all day, we thought it was time to go to an island and enjoy island life. We love to mix our activities between citytrips, island life and nature/hiking/mountains. So after our citytrip in Rijeka, we drove to an island names Cres. You can read all about beautiful and relaxing Cres in our next blog Stop 4.

PS did you know the quote of Cres is: ‘No stress in Cres’. Cres has really chill and relaxing vibes! This was ideal for us after the long 2 days of driving and our citytrip.

We hope you liked reading our blog about Rijeka and hope to see you again next week for our blog about Stop 4: Cres.
