This september (2020) we went on a roadtrip to Croatia. Each week we will tell you about another day and another amazing must visit stop in this beautiful country. So let’s start with stop 2: Lake Bled, Slovenia. Make sure to read stop 1: Chiemsee, Germany.

A little recap from last week. As we told you last week, we drove 1000km from our hometown in Belgium to Chiemsee, Germany. We slept in our car at a parking lot and had a beautiful picknick breakfast and sunrise on the lake of Chiemsee. After we had breakfast, we started driving again towards Slovenia.

First we had to cross Austria, but that went quite quickly and easy. Then we had to cross the border with Slovenia. We had to show our ID’s and prove we were going to leave the country within 24 hours. We had already booked our first accomodation in Rijeka, Croatia so no problems there. We like to always book our first accomodation so that we have a goal to get to and so that we are sure we can sleep and shower somewhere. Besides the first accomodation, we didn’t book any other.

After a 3 hour drive and about 285km from Chiemsee to Lake Bled, we couldn’t believe our eyes! This place is soooo magical! It’s a big lake surrounded by mountains. In the middle of the lake there’s a little island with a cute church on it. When you come early in the morning there’s always a bit of fog and dew and this makes this places look so mysterious and magical.

If you like, you can rent a kayak or gondola to discover the beautiful lake. Unfortunately we only had 2 hours to spend there so we walked around, took some photos and enjoyed the scenery. The only problem with Lake Bled is parking space. We literally drove around for 45minutes to find a parking space. After 45 minutes we finally found a little parking space, but it was really expensive. You pay the prices that you normally would pay in big cities. But for us, Lake Bled was way more important than any big city!

Due to covid, we couldn’t spend the night in Slovenia, so we drove along to Croatia. We felt really sad because Slovenia was def a country on our bucketlist! The nature and mountains here are so beautiful and not touristic at all!

After our stop in Lake Bled, we only had a 2 hour drive left to Rijeka, Croatia. This was 166km. We arrived in Rjieka around 5pm. This was the perfect time to settle in, empty our suitcases and drive towards the citycenter so find a place to have dinner. Our lovely host gave us some tips to have dinner, but we really wanted to enjoy sunset at the marina so we ate at Boonker http://boonker.hr/. This place looked like a hip and modern bar to grab a drink and bite. We ate pasta with truffels, spinach and bacon and it was so delicious!

We will tell you more about Rijeka in our next blog: Roadtrip Croatia stop 3: Rijeka, Croatia! We can already tell you it’s an old and charming city with lots of culture! See you next sunday!

Have you ever visited lake Bled or is it on you bucketlist? Please let us know in the comments!
