This september (2020) we went on a roadtrip to Croatia. Each week we will tell you about another day and another amazing must visit stop in this beautiful country. So let’s start with stop 1: Chiemsee in Germany.

To be honest, we were a bit scared to travel to Croatia during covid. We had to cross 5 countries to get there. We started our roadtrip in Belgium and had to go through Belgium, Germany, Austria and Slovenia to finally arrive in Croatia.
In advance we looked up all the covid restrictions in the different countries so we would be prepared and have less stress. We had to cross Slovenia in 24 hours due to covid and we could not sleep there, but we really really wanted to see lake Bled. So we took a quick stop and spend about 2 hours on this magical place. When you do a roadtrip to Slovenia, Croatia, Albany, Montenegro.. make sure to stop in lake bled because it’s so beautiful and magical! We will tell you more about Lake Bled, Slovenia in stop 2 of our croatian roadtrip next week.

So this is how the first part of our trip looked like.

Our first stop was Chiemsee, Germany. This was about a 1000km drive from our hometown in Belgium and took us about 13 hours. We decided to spend the night here in our car and sleep a bit to wake up with a beautiful view and to start the day fresh. It was already dark when we arrived so we didn’t get to see much of the scenery, but when we woke up we were blown away by this place.

We woke up at about 7 o’clock and walked from the parking lot to the lake. Chiemsee turned out to be a really big lake. We couldn’t see the end of it. We were all alone there so it was really quiet and peaceful. We really loved the view of the little cabin and the overhanging tree. The water was freezing cold so we only went in there with our feet 🙂
On the way to Chiemsee, we had dinner at a restaurant right next to the highway. We say this sign while we were driving on the highway and immediatly thought this was so cool and retro and we had to stop to check this out.

The place is called Maria’s diner and it instantly gave us the retro American diner vibes. I mean look at these red and white bench seats!

We ate some burgers here and then drove to Chiemsee. We arrived there at night.

After spending the morning here and eating our breakfast, we continued our journey. We started driving towards Croatia and crossed Austria and Slovenia in the meantime. Our second stop was lake Bled in Slovenia, but we will tell you more about that next week in ‘stop 2 roadtrip croatie: Lake Bled, Slovenia’. So stay tuned!
